I transmigrated to 1965 with the blueprints for a star destroyer, yet had to survive on coarse cornmeal buns.
In the cave factory, a Soviet expert declared, “These blueprints are science fiction.”
The factory director slammed the table. “Then we'll use a crude machine tool to build an intercontinental missile!”
When enemy agents set fire to the laboratory, I blasted them away with a fire hose.
Twenty years later, at a conference on converting military technology to civilian use,
one of the veteran engineers broke down in tears. “I was forced to marry a farmer in exchange for ration coupons.”
I quietly opened the window and pointed to a warship sailing into the distance. “Look. That's the ‘scrap metal’ from the cave back then.”
Before the factory director died, he pressed a faded photograph into my hand. “The truth about Project 506 is...”
The phone rang suddenly. A cold voice spoke on the other end: “The classified information you deciphered has been located.”
What can I say, it still doesn't look good.
