I’d been nagged about getting married until I was numb, but when I opened the door for my tenth blind date, I froze.
A handsome man in ancient robes sat at the table, his long black hair cascading down his back and his gaze icy. “I am the Lord of Hell. I have come to the mortal realm to find my wife.”
I burst out laughing. “Are you too deep into your cosplay? Or have you gone overboard with a murder mystery game?”
He tapped a finger, and in an instant I found myself in a meeting room in the underworld.
Ox-Head and Horse-Face were arguing so furiously about “congestion on the Bridge of Helplessness” that their faces had gone red.
A presentation glowed on the screen: “First-quarter KPI for departed souls exceeded by 200%. Severe shortage of Meng Po’s soup.”
The Lord of Hell rapped the table, his face cold. “Silence! First, we’ll settle the matter of my lifelong happiness.”
I raised a trembling hand. “Um... could you send me back to the mortal realm first, so I can update my résumé?”
“Apply for a civil service position in the underworld? It comes with full benefits and a thousand years of life.” He raised an eyebrow. “Marry me, and it’s yours.”
