Late Ming: A Landlord Rebel Descends from the Heavens

The protagonist, Wang Rui, was born in the Wanli era, on January 26, 1609. When he was twelve, he accompanied his mother, Fang Bijun, to visit her family. It was the Little Ice Age in the Ming dynasty. Northern China had suffered years of drought and plunging temperatures. Wheat, sorghum, and other crops failed year after year, leaving people starving, half-naked, and so desperate they sold their own children for food…

On the way home, the protagonist lifted the carriage curtain while the maid wasn’t looking. For various reasons, he developed a high fever that wouldn’t go away, and his spirit wandered. In a later age, one of Wang Rui’s descendants, a history professor named Wang Hengjie, lay on his deathbed. As his life flashed before his eyes, he looked back on its tumultuous course, then smiled peacefully. I have no regrets.

But fate had other plans. A bolt of lightning sent his soul back to Wang Rui’s time. His soul merged with Wang Rui’s and took up residence in his mind. Let’s see what dazzling tale these two men from different eras will create in this age. We’ll wait and see.
