This is the sweeping history of a dynasty's rise and fall. It all began with Nurhaci. His grandfather and father were killed by Ming forces, planting the seeds of hatred in his heart. Clutching the thirteen suits of armor they left behind, he set out on a path of revenge and ascendance, driven by fury and unshakable resolve.
With extraordinary cunning and courage in battle, Nurhaci gradually united the Jurchen tribes. He established the niru system, which later developed into the Eight Banners system, making the Later Jin army as solid as iron. At the Battle of Sarhu, he won against overwhelming odds, securing Later Jin's dominance in Liaodong. After that, Later Jin continued to expand, and its clashes with the Ming Dynasty grew increasingly fierce.
Yet the road to power was full of obstacles and challenges. Internal struggles never ceased. The split with Šurhaci and the imprisonment and execution of Cuyen plunged Later Jin into one crisis after another. But under rulers such as Hong Taiji, Later Jin continued to grow stronger, eventually sweeping into China and establishing the Qing Dynasty.
The early Qing Dynasty ushered in the glory of the Kangxi-Qianlong era. But as times changed and Western powers invaded, the dynasty gradually declined. A series of defeats, including the Opium War and the First Sino-Japanese War, left the Qing beset by crises at home and abroad. In the end, the Xinhai Revolution brought Qing rule to an end.
From the uprising with thirteen suits of armor to the fall of the Qing Dynasty, this history bears witness to the legend and rise and fall of an empire.
