The heroine Shui Niang (real name Lin Zhaodi) was born on a rainy night in the middle of July (Ghost Festival), and was regarded as "unlucky" by superstition. An exquisite lotus river lamp that drifted to her when she was a baby became her only companion. This lamp is not only proof of her identity, but also implies her strange affinity (perception, slight influence) to water flow and aquatic creatures. It is her source of "blessing" and also strengthens her label of "water life".
