Cai Lun, courtesy name Jingzhong, was born in Leiyang County, Guiyang County, in the early years of Yongping (61 or 63 years) into a family of iron smelters. Cai Lun has been diligent and studious since he was a child, and has a strong interest in smelting, casting, growing hemp, and raising silkworms. By the time he was young, Cai Lun was already full of knowledge and talent. In the 18th year of Yongping (AD 75), Cai Lun entered the imperial palace on the recommendation of the iron official and began to work as an errand in Yeting, where his concubines lived next to the palace. In the ninth year of Yongyuan (AD 97), Cai Lunga was appointed Shang Fangling, and his talents and learning were truly brought into play. Under his leadership, Shangfang Manufacturing Workshop greatly improved the manufacturing technology of swords, crossbows and other equipment. In the first year of Yuanxing (AD 105), Cai Lun improved the papermaking technology and trial-produced paper that was light, flexible, easy to obtain, widely sourced, and low-priced and presented it to Emperor He of the Han Dynasty. The paper was highly praised by Emperor He of the Han Dynasty. This paper was quickly promoted and was called "Caihou Paper" by later generations. This book is a set of stories depicting the life of this famous inventor.
