In the seventeenth year of the Daoguang reign (1837), Hong Xiuquan was devastated after failing the imperial examinations for the third time. He suffered a mental breakdown and fell seriously ill.
Back in Huaxian to recuperate, Hong Xiuquan's fever would not break. As he lay unconscious in bed, he dreamed he had arrived in heaven, where God stood on a high platform and said something.
God spoke from the stage to Hong and the angels beside him. On the blackboard behind God were words Hong could not understand.
God said, "The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom failed because of internal divisions and strategic blunders."
An angel asked, "If Hong Xiuquan had awakened to the truth sooner, could he have rewritten history?"
As Hong listened, his vision suddenly went black, and his consciousness gradually faded away.
Hong Gui, who had been listening to the lecture in the classroom, transmigrated from the modern era and took his place. Memories of Hong Xiuquan's past flooded his mind, and he resolved: "With the wisdom of future generations, I will change the course of history."
