Protagonist: Lin Feng, the captain of the “Dark Blade” assault team, an elite special forces unit in 21st-century China. He is skilled in special operations, hand-to-hand combat, demolition, sniping, intelligence analysis, multiple languages, battlefield first aid, camouflage, and infiltration. Resolute, composed, and deeply loyal, he is nevertheless somewhat lost deep down, worn by the brutality of modern warfare and yearning for peace.
Transmigration: During a counterterrorism operation on the border, he is gravely wounded while covering his comrades’ retreat and falls into an abyss. When he wakes, he finds himself on the Chinese battlefield in April 1945, inhabiting the body of “Lin Ergou,” a low-ranking soldier in the Nationalist Army’s 74th Army (or New 6th Army), who has just died in the West Hunan Campaign. He inherits fragments of the original owner’s memories, giving him a basic understanding of the era.
Time period: April 1945, during the West Hunan Campaign. This is the last large-scale battle against Japan on the Chinese front and the prelude to the strategic counteroffensive. Japan will surrender in just over four months, but the darkness before dawn is at its worst. His military skills and tactical concepts are far ahead of their time, including fire teams of three, CQB, sniping tactics, special operations team methods, and psychological warfare.
He has a hazy “foreknowledge” of major historical events, limited to general knowledge of major battles, key figures, and the timing of Japan’s surrender. The details are vague and subject to the butterfly effect. He also has a resilient modern physique and strong battlefield survival skills.
A few pieces of modern equipment he carries: an indestructible military dagger, a multifunctional waterproof lighter, a close-fitting set of high-strength fiber ballistic plates (damaged, but still offering limited protection), and a small first-aid kit containing modern medicines and antibiotics (in limited supply). No firearms with unlimited ammunition.
