An unexpected transmigration: During a military exercise, modern special forces soldier Wang Feng encounters a rift in time and space. He transmigrates to the anti-Japanese battlefield in North China in 1940 with a Type 99 main battle tank, and is rescued by an Eighth Route Army guerrilla unit.
A triumphant first battle: Using the Type 99 tank's overwhelming firepower, Wang Feng wipes out an entire Japanese company in an ambush at Lijiatun and saves villagers who were about to be massacred, stunning the Eighth Route Army commanders and fighters.
Keeping his identity secret: Wang Feng fabricates a background as an “overseas Chinese returning home,” concealing the fact that he comes from the future. At the same time, he begins thinking about how to help the resistance without changing the broad course of history.
Tactical innovation: Wang Feng shows the guerrilla unit's commander, Zhao Tiezhu, modern weapons and tactics. The two build a preliminary trust and begin planning to form a special operations squad incorporating modern tactics. A crisis looms: Japanese commander Sato Ichiro takes notice of this mysterious unit that has appeared out of nowhere. He mobilizes a large force to hunt them down and sends spies to investigate the truth behind the “steel monster.”
