Cheng Rong's mortal body perished in an ancient calamity. His obsession would not fade, and for five thousand years he wandered the human world in a half-human, half-ghost form. The brief warmth he found after Cheng Zheng adopted him vanished when she returned to the River of Forgetfulness. Back in solitude, he never expected that seeing Cheng Zheng off would trigger the ancestral tablet honoring Cheng family forebear Cheng Juanxi to shatter with a thunderous crash. A mysterious pattern pointed straight to Yucheng.
Geng Chen was a rising star among the younger generation of the Geng family: calm and keen-minded, he was ordered to investigate the strange occurrence with his close friend Soen. At Yucheng No. 1 High School, he encountered a bizarre case involving the disappearance of a "female ghost." All he found was the strange trace of a spatial formation, its aura somehow connected to a mysterious and ancient cat demon. The tangled clues pointed toward a ghost lair buried deep underground.
When Cheng Rong, a lonely spirit devoted to protecting the past, crosses paths with Geng Chen, a modern-day celestial master pursuing the truth, secrets sealed away for five thousand years and the karmic ties of Cheng Juanxi gradually come to light. On one side is eternal solitude forged from a cold obsession; on the other, the keen resolve driven by a noble family's duty. What ancient secret will they uncover in this town, where undercurrents run deep? And what role does the elusive cat demon play? In the depths of the ghost lair, will they find redemption, or sink into an even darker abyss?
