Beneath the Ashes

Lin Jin was once a sanda prodigy. When he won the national youth championship at sixteen, Su Xiao cheered for him from the stands. At the celebration banquet after the match, the crack of his collarbone breaking was more piercing than a champagne cork. Permanent damage to his lower back ended his career for good. His mentor and uncle died in a car accident. His master and senior fellow students were all recruited by the army, while Su Xiao left a note saying, “I can't take this kind of life anymore,” and disappeared. Five years later, hunched over while repairing locks, he sees a man in a bespoke suit blocking the shop entrance. “The Reincarnation Organization invites you to rejoin us.” “You've got the wrong person,” Lin Jin says without looking up. The man chuckles. “Your injuries were a gift we prepared just for you.” [Most of the early chapters are setup.
