Turbulent Times at the End of the Ming: A Poor Scholar Becomes Prime Minister

In the autumn of 1556, during the thirty-fifth year of the Jiajing reign, Yu Mo, a modern graduate student in history and engineer, transmigrates into the body of a poor scholar named Yu Mo in Huating County, Songjiang Prefecture, South Zhili, now Songjiang, Shanghai. He has repeatedly failed the imperial examinations, and his family has fallen on hard times. Yan Song wields immense power but is beginning to show signs of decline. Japanese pirates ravage the southeast, while the Mongol leader Anda repeatedly raids the northern frontier. The Great Ming is beset by internal and external troubles, its treasury is empty, and factional strife is fierce.

In this troubled age, Yu Mo must survive and rise to prominence, using modern knowledge to save the Great Ming, or at least delay its collapse. In the end, he will take real control of the nation’s fate and fulfill his ambitions as a pillar of the state and Grand Secretary, reaching the pinnacle of power as The Outcast.
