I Saved a Mafia Boss in 1935

Medical doctor Su Wan crashes into 1935 Shanghai on a stormy night.

The moment she opens her eyes, a gun is pressed to her temple.

To save her life, she is forced to operate on Gu Qianfan, a wounded crime boss who has been shot.

“Don’t try anything,” he gasps, gripping her wrist.

On the night the operation succeeds, Gu Qianfan toys with the bottle of aspirin he found in her bag.

“Miss Su, these pills... work better than the sulfa drugs at the foreign-run pharmacies.”

Neon lights flicker outside the window. He suddenly looks up.

“Stay here and be my personal doctor.”

“Otherwise, all of Shanghai will find out there’s a female doctor here with no clear origins...”

Su Wan stares at the photograph in the mirror of a Republican-era woman who looks exactly like her, and falls silent.
