One Sword Shatters the Shackles of the Lower Realms, and I Claim the Supreme Divine Throne

"An F-rank Lucky Star?" Everyone gasped. A moment later, they curled their lips as if about to laugh, but the report's owner gathered up the rating report without a trace of emotion, his fingertips moving almost unconsciously. The glaring letter "F" on the page was like a red-hot brand, nearly burning a hole through his palm. Doubtful voices rose all around him. In a world obsessed with rankings, an F meant rock bottom. It meant even the lame stray dog at the village entrance had a three-point better chance of survival than you. Yet the man simply set the report down and prepared to leave this place of trouble.

"I'm serious. It's incredibly powerful."

When the lazy voice came from behind me, I thought I was hearing things. I looked up and met a pair of half-lidded eyes. The person was chewing on an unlit cigarette, leaning against a mottled wall. Sunlight streamed through the loose hair behind his ear, casting wavering spots of light over the F-rank report.

The pair's shadows beneath the setting sun appeared again in the report.

I truly hated having letters determine people's ranks, so I might as well name it the highest rank!
