Late in the Ming dynasty, during the Chongzhen reign, the empire is on the brink of collapse. Inside, refugees rise up everywhere, while corrupt officials have hollowed out the court. Outside, powerful enemies loom, and vassal princes and nobles wreak havoc across the land. The realm lies in ruins, and the dynasty teeters on the edge of extinction.
In this desperate age of chaos, the soul of Zhu Yuanzhang, the Ming dynasty's founding emperor, transmigrates into the body of the doomed Chongzhen Emperor.
From the start, he takes charge of the Ming dynasty's utterly ruined remnants. See how the Hongwu Emperor, with the iron-fisted methods he used to found a dynasty as a commoner, pulls a nation back from the brink of destruction.
He surveys farmland, cracks down on corruption, and uses an iron fist against hereditary nobles and court officials who are eating away at the state;
he reforms the capital's military camps and rigorously trains the troops, tackling a century of decay marked by lax discipline and depleted armaments;
he eliminates redundant officials, reforms the bureaucracy, and appoints practical talents such as Gu Yanwu, Huang Zongxi, and Wang Fuzhi;
he repels the Manchus in the north, secures the southern coastline, quells rebels, puts down internal unrest, rejects peace talks, drives out foreign invaders, and upholds China's national prestige.
He witnessed the suffering and displacement of the late Yuan dynasty and saw the bones of the dead strewn across the land amid chaos. He knows the people's hardships and understands all too well how hard-won this realm is.
There are no mindless cheat powers or instant victories, only the painstaking struggle to turn the tide, step by step;
there are no easy shortcuts to being an emperor, only the weight of courtly power struggles, survival amid chaos, and the burden of pressing onward.
The Hongwu Emperor returns to the Ming, using the spirit of a great man to extend the dynasty's fate by more than three hundred years.
Amid the storms, he rebuilds the realm, restores the splendor of China, and establishes lasting peace for the Ming.
Comrades, leave some feedback in the comments and help give this some exposure!
This fictional history novel is completely different from other Ming Dynasty Shuangwen novels. This is the serious route. It is not a mindless pile of words. It is really well written.
Needless to say, Er Ye, it must be given five stars.
