Boruto clenched his fists, his fingernails digging deep into his palms. Momoshiki’s whispers seemed to ring right beside his ears, tempting him to unleash even greater power while threatening to devour his soul. “I know, Master Sasuke.” His voice was hoarse. “I’ll never let him get his way.”
The Jogan throbbed faintly beneath his right eye. It was his last hope of standing against the Otsutsuki and uncovering the truth. For the past two years, he and Sasuke had traveled from place to place, evading pursuit by Konoha and Kawaki while secretly investigating Code’s whereabouts and searching for clues about “Shinjutsu” and the “Otsutsuki God.”
“Get some rest.” Sasuke closed his eyes. “We have to keep moving tomorrow. We heard that Code’s minions were spotted near the border of the Land of Iron.”
Boruto nodded and turned his gaze from the flames to the night sky. A shooting star streaked across the heavens, briefly illuminating his youthful, resolute face. He thought of Konoha, of the warmth of Mom Hinata’s embrace, of his little sister Himawari’s innocent smile, of Sarada’s determined gaze, and of Mitsuki… the friend who had once trusted him without question, but now saw him as an enemy who had to be eliminated.
“I’ll definitely come back.” Boruto swore softly to the shooting star. “I’ll expose the truth, reclaim everything that belongs to me, and protect everything I hold dear.”
The flames danced in his eyes, as if burning with an indomitable will.
