From the Start, I Went Bald, Then Got Rich with Blind Boxes

Meng Wantang, a modern internet-age corporate drone, dies from overwork and becomes the eight-year-old illegitimate daughter of a junior official of the Court of Sacrificial Worship in the Great Zhou dynasty.

Her birth mother has just passed away, and she has only recently recovered from a serious illness. Her stepmother is kind, her grandmother dotes on her, and her stern father favors her. Her four-year-old little brother trails behind her like a stubborn little shadow. Just as life seems to be settling down, a sudden "ding" rings in her mind

[Welcome to the Mystery Box System. Newbie gift: a seasoning mystery box.]

[Mission: Sell 50 boxes within four hours. Failure penalty: baldness.]

Meng Wantang is full of confidence, but she forgets that people in ancient times use these things as incense. The mission fails, and she turns into a little bald girl.

The System won't let up: "Limited-time mission: Sell 100 wooden combs to monks, one per person."

Meng Wantang: ??? I'm bald, and I'm supposed to sell combs to a bunch of other bald people?

Later, the ancient world's first mystery-box shop opens in the western market of the capital.

The tasting line for the "Mystery Box of a Hundred Flavors" stretches on forever; the "Imperial Exam Luck Mystery Box" contains Five Years of Exams, Three Years of Practice Tests, and scholars across the city start frantically cramming.

The powerful aristocratic families and wealthy merchants try to crush her? She counters with a hidden limited-edition item with a 0.01% chance of appearing. Even palace nobles send people to camp out and snap it up.

Later, as she flips through the account books full of more silver than she can count, she smiles with satisfaction.

In this life, the overworked corporate drone turns her fortunes around and becomes the mastermind behind the ancient world's mightiest mystery-box chain.

No romance, just making money.
