Sworn Siblings: But They Can’t Escape the Seven-Year Friendship Itch

Jealous of other girls who received affection from their older brothers, and with the other person longing for a younger sister, the two swore an oath of brotherhood: “We may not be born in the same year, month, or day, but may we share every blessing.” The one born on October 30, 1985, became the older brother, and the one born on January 4, 1986, became the younger sister. Thus began a seven-year bond. Over those years, they shared warmth and helped each other through everything, laughed and made merry, and weathered conflicts that eventually gave way to reconciliation. After the older brother found a girlfriend, the three of them continued to share many warm and happy moments. They thought their bond could stand the test of time, but in the seventh year, old conflicts resurfaced. The seven-year itch didn't strike their love life, but their friendship. This time, their bond didn't survive. A connection born of a longing for family, once thought unbreakable, ultimately reached a different kind of ending as time wore it away.
