The Little Darling Tugged at Her Rugged Dad and Sweetly Asked Her Mom to Claim Her

To escape the harassment of her former fiancé, runaway bride Su Wenjun takes her three-year-old darling, Xiaotangqiu, to live in seclusion in Qingxi Village, where they make a living selling wild-vegetable pastries. Hunter Huo Chengye gets drawn into the lives of mother and child after stumbling upon Xiaotangqiu's “fish-catching” plan, which is really the little one's deliberate scheme to drop a fish and get his attention. Xiaotangqiu goes all out to play matchmaker with clever ploys like “I want Daddy to make me a grasshopper” and “I'm scared of wolves, so Daddy has to keep watch.” The taciturn, rough-hewn Huo Chengye gradually learns how to show affection. Amid their lively, chaotic daily life, the three lower their defenses, and Su Wenjun eventually faces her past and joins Huo Chengye in a cozy life of a rugged husband doting on his wife and a little darling tricking her dad. Highlights: The little darling is full of memorable lines, such as “Mama's sugar cakes are sweeter than Xiaotangqiu, and Daddy's arms are softer than a haystack.” The leads' playful bickering is adorable: Huo Chengye secretly embroiders a pair of lotus flowers for Su Wenjun, but Xiaotangqiu catches him and insists they're “wildflowers from the mountains.” The village ensemble is full of life, from Matchmaker Wang, who loves gossip, to Aunt Zhang, who is always bringing them eggs.
