Reborn: The Ghost Emperor’s Darling

She is a gentle, soft-spoken medicine maiden, her life cut short on a cliff, her obsession keeping her spirit from moving on.

He is the cold-blooded Ghost Emperor, alone for a thousand years, until he makes an exception for her.

Su Zhiyi, the legitimate daughter of a family renowned for its medicine, was struck by disaster on her sixteenth birthday. Her family was falsely accused, and while fleeing, she gave her life to protect her childhood sweetheart, Gu Huai, plunging from a cliff.

Her soul returned to the underworld. At the Bridge of Helplessness, all the other souls moved on to their next lives, but her obsession ran too deep, and she lingered. The warmth of her family, the injustice left unresolved, and her bond with her childhood sweetheart became an agony that gnawed at her. This stubborn spirit caught the attention of Cai Yu, the Eastern Ghost Emperor who ruled Taizhi Mountain.

His dark robes fluttered, and his cruelty had endured for a thousand years. He gripped her chin, his voice as cold as ice. “Don’t want to be reborn? Then beg me.” Desperate to witness her family’s exoneration and see her loved ones safe, she offered her soul in exchange for his help.

After returning to the mortal world, he used his spiritual power in secret to clear the names of the Su and Gu families and protect her parents. She swallowed her grief and helped Gu Huai emerge from his sorrow and find a new love. On the night of his wedding, her spirit nearly dissipated. He covered her eyes. “Don’t look.” Beneath his cold-blooded facade lay a tenderness and possessiveness no one else could see.

Once the injustice was cleared and their contract expired, he still did not claim her soul. Instead, citing the “price of staying behind,” he forced her to sign a marriage contract with Taizhi Mountain. As they spent day after day together, his “long-planned” devotion gradually broke down her defenses. The once heartless Eastern Ghost Emperor became an obsessively attentive husband, abandoning a thousand years of principles to shower her with tenderness.

At their grand wedding, they drank from their nuptial cups. His breath was hot. “It’s time to consummate the marriage.” Wrapped in sweetness, she remained unaware until she accidentally learned the secret of her “God of Medicine blood”: a drop of blood from her heart could equal a thousand years of cultivation, transcend life and death, and overturn the Three Realms.
