On the Immortal Martial Continent, countless races stand tall. Spiritual roots open the way to immortality, while martial souls split the sky! Heaven-grade spiritual roots are rarer than phoenix feathers, while even Earth-grade roots belong to the exceptional. Martial souls are myriad, their potential boundless, but the Devouring Martial Soul is unique across the ages, supreme among them all!
Chen Cang, son of the Chen clan chief in a remote border city, possesses this peerless martial soul. Sadly, resources are scarce and knowledge is limited, so this supreme martial soul is dismissed as a "useless mud loach," supposedly inferior even to an Earth-grade spiritual root. For eighteen long years, he endures contempt and ridicule. Then the Lin family, whose daughter was betrothed to him as a child, brazenly breaks off the engagement, bringing him unbearable humiliation.
Clan infighting conceals murderous intent. First Elder Chen Xiao covets power and sees Chen Cang and his father as obstacles. When Chen Cang ventures into the perilous Hengduan Mountains in search of a chance to survive, a deadly betrayal strikes! A poisoned dagger, a fatal kick, and he is sent hurtling into a bottomless abyss. It seems his body is destined to be shattered!
But the abyss is no end. It is the beginning of the Demon Lord's return!
At the brink of death, his overwhelming hatred finally stirs his dormant martial soul! This faint ripple awakens an ancient being at the bottom of the abyss, one who also fell because of the power of devouring: the master of the Devouring Demon Palace, the Sky-Devouring Demon Venerable! The ancient demon's remnant soul sees in Chen Cang a hope for revenge and the continuation of his legacy.
"Want to live? Want... revenge?" The icy demonic voice sounds like both a pact and a command.
Cornered, Chen Cang swears an oath in blood! The Demon Venerable burns away his remnant soul to help him fully awaken the Devouring Martial Soul and pass on the supreme secret art, the Devouring Demonic Art!
From that moment, the wheels of fate begin to turn with a roar...
Watch as Chen Cang builds on devouring and wields demonic arts as his blade, striding through this grand age where immortals and martial cultivators coexist and countless races vie for supremacy. He will devour the heavens and earth, refine the stars, and forge a path to becoming a Devouring Emperor that makes all the heavens tremble! The Demon Lord has returned from the abyss.
