Wuda Lang (Wu Zhi)
His given name was Wu Zhi, and his courtesy name Tianling. He was from Wujia Village in Qinghe County, Hebei, and was born during the Ming Dynasty, not the Northern Song. He was a descendant of King Wu Ding of the Shang dynasty.
Over 1.8 meters tall, according to measurements of his shinbones taken in 1996, he was no “three-foot dwarf.” He passed the jinshi examination in middle age and served as magistrate of Yanggu County in Shandong. An honest official, he built waterworks and overturned wrongful convictions. The people honored him with a “Parasol of Ten Thousand People.”
