Wu Dalang (Wu Zhi)
His real name is Wu Zhi, whose courtesy name is Tianling. He is a native of Wujiana Village, Qinghe County, Hebei Province. He was born in the Ming Dynasty (not the Northern Song Dynasty) and is a descendant of Wu Ding, King of the Yin Shang Dynasty.
He is over 1.8 Meters tall (according to calf bone measurements in 1996) and is not "three inches tall". He passed the Jinshi examination in middle age and was appointed as the magistrate of Yanggu County, Shandong Province. He was an honest official, built water conservancy projects and redressed unjust cases. The people gave him the "Wanmin Umbrella" as a sign of respect.
