The Grim Reaper at Four Thousand Meters

(I'm terrible at writing summaries. The protagonist takes flight starting in Chapter 5.)

“How does a high-altitude interceptor end up flying low, taking on Messerschmitts in an outdated three-plane formation, and having to brave anti-aircraft fire for reconnaissance and ground attacks? And you, don't you dare take apart my Berezin and give it to the new planes in the rear! I'm left with two 7.62s. I'll kill you! Come on, you fly this hunk of junk!” The young pilot vows to defend the heavy machine guns on her plane to the death.

“Comrade Sergeyevskaya, if you don't like the MiG-3, how about taking that adorable little donkey up into the sky next time?”

“The MiG is a great plane!” Thinking of the stubborn donkey that is the I-16, Alexandra turns around and loudly praises the MiG.
