Ma Xian of the White Mountains and Black Waters: The Ma Family Shrine

He shoots and kills a weasel spirit with three hundred years of cultivation. He thinks it’s a fortune dropped from heaven, but little does he know he’s letting a wolf into the house and bringing disaster upon his entire family!

Ma Li, an ordinary hunter’s son, is inexplicably targeted by the weasel spirit and becomes his family’s “incense bearer,”

a “spirit medium” who communicates with the immortals!

The altar has just been set up, its four beams and eight pillars are still incomplete, but rules and taboos are already piling up!

Male and female immortals can’t sit together?

If the immortals don’t get enough to eat, will they “blow up the altar”?!

The slightest mistake could mean trouble at home at best,

or the destruction of his soul and the end of his life at worst!

Luckily, the mysterious blind man Li shows him the way, and the highly cultivated Great Ancestress sits in the shrine as its guardian!

And yet,

when the scent of New Year’s Eve dinner fills the air, the immortals at the altar still haven’t received their offerings;

when his mother’s sobs ring out from the outer room in the middle of the night...

Ma Li realizes that his real troubles are only just beginning!

Amid the forests and rivers of the Northeast, can Ma Li carry on the Ma family’s line of worship, uncover the immortals’ secrets, lead his family through their darkest hour, and become a true master spirit medium?

A legend of the Northeast’s immortals, a family’s fate, and taboos surrounding life and death now unfolds!
