Special forces soldier Lin Feng transmigrates to Shanghai in 1939 and becomes a junior agent for the Military Statistics Bureau. His bonus disguise skill from a game lets him pull off some outrageous stunts from the start: he disguises himself as a traitor at an execution ground and slaps a Japanese colonel twice in front of everyone.
“Sir, I was hitting an anti-Japanese fighter!” he says, pointing at the real traitor with an innocent look.
From then on, Shanghai gains a new “chameleon.” One day he's making coffee for secret agents at 76, the next he's fixing a safe at Japanese army headquarters.
At a Military Statistics Bureau promotion banquet, he tearfully clings to a new female colleague: “Comrade, you look just like my fiancée who died for the cause.”
Then, with the very same face, he embraces a Japanese female agent at a collaborationist-Japanese dance: “Miss, you look exactly like my first love.”
When two appointment notices promoting him to major general arrive at the same time, Lin Feng is performing Sichuan opera face-changing for Tokyo's bigwigs.
The moment the curtain falls, he grins at the guests: “And now, please enjoy... the vanishing classified documents.”
