Aside from losing her mother at a young age, she had everything other girls could envy, from her family background to her own qualities, not to mention a life that seemed to go smoothly at every turn.

Then an unexpected windfall fell from the sky: the emperor suddenly arranged a marriage for her.

Wei Yishu simply waved her hand. It was fine, it was fine. She’d make the best of it.

But on her wedding night...

“What did you say? The groom ran away?”

For once, Wei Yishu was so angry she laughed.

All she could do was treat the hero’s family like her own and stay ready to run at a moment’s notice.

Another bright, sunny day came, and Wei Yishu set out for a temple, only to be trapped there by a sudden downpour.

In a daze, she felt a scorching gaze coil around her neck like a snake flicking its tongue, as if she were being bitten hard by flames.

She jolted awake from the nightmare, cold sweat soaking her back, only to look up and meet a pair of beastlike, blood-red eyes.
