Pain.
The pain that penetrates deep into the bone marrow is like countless steel needles stirring in the temple, and like being hit hard by a heavy hammer on the back of the head. Chaos and clarity are repeatedly tugging at the edge of consciousness. Lin Chen struggled to open his eyes, but his eyelids were as heavy as a thousand pounds. His nose was filled with an unfamiliar smell mixed with herbs, leather and a faint smell of blood, which made him feel nauseous.
"Water... Water..." His chapped lips moved, making a hoarse voice that was almost out of tune.
"General! General, are you awake?" A surprised voice sounded in his ears, with a hint of cautious trembling. Immediately afterwards, a slightly rough hand gently lifted the back of his neck, and the edge of a slightly cool pottery bowl was brought to his lips.
The warm water slid into his throat and moistened his esophagus, which was about to smoke. Lin Chen swallowed greedily until the bowl of water reached the bottom. He finally gathered some strength and slowly opened it...
