The novel mostly focuses on details, but the middle has some extremely slapdash transitions. I recommend skimming those parts.
When Fu Qing woke up, she vaguely heard a deranged man's voice spouting deranged things. What was he saying? A creepy doll that turns around to kill you? Half a person who always appears around corners? An old man wandering around late at night? “Thanks. The new world is so exciting that I've gotten a little carried away. Let's see which of us is more...”
Half-asleep, Fu Qing thought she was done for. The supernatural had surely taken over the city, throwing everything into chaos. Otherwise, why would there be such a weird guy in her home saying such weird things? Damn those containment agents! Hadn't they promised that their supernatural items could keep the things outside from getting in?
Luckily, it was just a dream. When she opened her eyes, all the arguing vanished like smoke. But, could someone tell her why she'd been tied to the bedpost all night? And why was she in the filthy bachelor pad of a young man who lived alone? Worse still, this dump was in an uninhabited zone overrun by the supernatural!
“Ren Suixiang, you said those things, didn't you?”
“H-how could I? That's way too cringe.”
“Hmph. Want me to help you remember?” Fu Qing picked the half-finger that had been stuck tightly to Ren Suixiang's collarbone and held it up to him.
“Fine, I give up. No, stop! Let go!”
