Western fantasy, not a traditional power fantasy. The first volume's opening dozen or so chapters are mostly setup; the main story begins in the second volume. The everyday scenes are lighthearted and funny, while the battles are tense and thrilling.
The protagonist has a golden finger, but its side effects are just as obvious: he needs far more experience to level up than other people.
Character level isn't everything. Some enemies can fight opponents three tiers above them, while others struggle even against foes at their own level.
Combat strength is determined by a combination of level, aptitude, talents, and other factors, not by level alone.
The world view is very novel and combines Eastern and Western elements. It is worth a visit.
