In Taoism, “longevity and lasting vision” means extending one's life through cultivation, perhaps even attaining immortality. It emphasizes becoming one with nature and nurturing life. Some religious and philosophical systems hold that the body is fleeting, while the soul or consciousness is immortal, rather than the physical body itself lasting forever. From a scientific perspective, possibilities include cloning bodies and transferring memories; becoming a cyborg by replacing parts of the body with mechanical or artificial organs, ultimately escaping the limits of biological aging; and interstellar travel with time dilation, using relativistic effects or suspended animation to slow aging during long journeys through space, achieving longevity in a relative sense. For thousands, even tens of thousands of years, the word “longevity” has continued to surface throughout the course of civilization, whether in the lives of emperors and generals or of prodigies and exceptional talents. What is longevity? How can one achieve it?
