In the winter of 1943, Johannes Jorgensen struggles to survive in a Polish concentration camp when his Stand, The Iron Gavel, awakens. Its fists are encased in metallic-colored, hornlike gauntlets, and its dark gray limbs are threaded with knotted veins of energy, like black thorns. The faint light from the Stand’s awakening illuminates the iron bars of the cell! By chance, Johannes glimpses the Nazi officer Helder poisoning Winston, a resistance fighter, with specially prepared coffee. Helder notices him watching and mocks him through the cell door, calling him “little mouse.” To Johannes’s shock, Helder is a Stand user too! His Stand, Solidus Mark, can instantly harden matter! Helder raises a hand and slaps the cell door. The entire wooden door and its frame turn black in an instant, as hard and indestructible as obsidian! Trapped with no way out, Johannes despairingly feels for a rifle bullet given to him by a fallen comrade: “When your shackles feel heavier than frozen earth, use this to smash the whole damn thing…”
