An accident let her hear the heartbeat of Earth. Giving birth brought into the world the very eyes she'd seen in her dreams.
Cheng Xiaoyu was just an ordinary architectural designer until a glowing baby appeared out of thin air in her arms beside Changbai Mountain's Heavenly Lake. Its left eye shimmered gold, its right eye glowed red.
"Mommy, I'm hungry," it said in her mind.
From then on, she was swept into a dialogue between civilizations spanning three thousand years: the Sixth Civilization became soil so the Seventh could bloom; the global "Children of the Earth" built a lullaby barrier to protect the baby with the sounds of their labor, tapping rubber, striking ore, cracking whips, and stomping their feet; and the crystal being called "Bridge-1" returned from deep within the Earth's veins to the strains of an Italian lullaby.
But when she completed her final defense beneath the lake and surfaced with the baby in her arms...
She woke up in a hospital room.
A white ceiling, the smell of disinfectant, and no golden patterns on her wrist.
"You're seven weeks pregnant," Yu Xiaoyang said.
Had it all... been a dream?
Until, in the delivery room, her daughter opened those golden-red eyes.
When she was five, she drew a flower in the sandbox, exactly like the one on the jade disc at Heavenly Lake.
"Mommy, I dreamed lots of people were singing. Someone stroked my head and said, 'Thank you for choosing to come.'"
Cheng Xiaoyu held her daughter as the sunset stretched their shadows long, so very long.
Somewhere in the distance, someone was singing an old song.
The melody was familiar and warm.
Like the Earth's veins singing.
Very interesting story
The story is full of ups and downs, the writing is wonderful, and it's so beautiful.
