For the Dragon Boat Festival, I made a hundred jin of zongzi for my boyfriend’s family and another hundred jin for my own family.
I never expected that while I was out grabbing a cup of milk tea, my future sister-in-law would post a video of selling them in the family group chat.
I opened the voice message she sent me.
“Each seafood zongzi sold for five yuan. I made two thousand. I’ll send you a red envelope, and I’ll keep the rest as my cut for all the hard work.”
“Oh, and the neighbors said they want the zongzi for breakfast tomorrow, so remember to get up early and make them. Don’t make me wait until four in the afternoon to set up my stall like today.”
I opened the red envelope and stared at the eight yuan and eighty cents in disbelief.
She’d practically given away the king crab that cost eight thousand yuan and the giant lobsters that cost several thousand each.
And now she expected me to get up early and make zongzi for her tomorrow?
When my boyfriend saw how upset I was, he didn’t comfort me. Instead, he chimed in:
“She’s just a kid trying to start a business. What’s wrong with you supporting her as her sister-in-law?”
I was so angry I laughed.
If you two siblings are both trying to take advantage of me, then I’m done helping you!
