Love Is Gone, and I'll Never Look Back

My grandmother was critically ill, and my boyfriend, He Zizhou, was the only surgeon in the whole city who could perform the operation.

I pleaded with him for 27 days. He said Grandma had finally made it onto the schedule and could have the surgery.

Grandma waited in the operating room until she died. He never showed up.

That evening, I saw He Zizhou’s childhood sweetheart post a photo after surgery on Weibo:

“Thank goodness you were there. I’d had an appointment for a month, but finally got it done three days early.”

That was when I realized that on the very first day I begged He Zizhou, he had already agreed to accompany his childhood sweetheart, Xu Weiwei, to South Korea for cosmetic surgery.

My phone rang. He Zizhou sent me a casual message on WeChat, saying the operation would be delayed by three days and he would perform it himself.

“Wan Yi, be good and try to understand. I promised Weiwei ages ago. I can’t let her down.”

“Give it three more days and Weiwei’s double eyelids will have gone down.”

“I’ll operate on Grandma three days from now.”

Three days later, as He Zizhou checked the information before operating on my grandmother,

he discovered that my grandmother had already died.
