Beneath the calm surface of the city, the world of supernatural abilities seethes with hidden currents. Burdened by her father’s murder and drowning in debt, Lin Wan saves Shen Zhiyan, the young heir of the Shen family, after he is drugged during a designated-driver job. Their intimate encounter is exposed, and the two are forced to sign a contract. Lin Wan uses her mind-reading ability to uncover malicious intentions and outmaneuver her foes with her wits. Shen Zhiyan seems like a playboy, but he has secretly joined the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs to investigate his mother’s death, and his teleportation ability comes at a hidden cost.
As they live together, sweetness and danger intertwine amid their mutual testing of each other. The assassins sent by Shen Zhiyan’s father and the deadly showdown at the engagement banquet push them to the brink. Shen Zhiyan takes a bullet protecting Lin Wan, and she unleashes her time-stopping ability to turn the tide. A holographic ledger hidden in a chip exposes Shen Zhiyan’s father’s crimes.
In the end, Lin Wan uses her compensation money to open a detective agency and fight for justice, while Shen Zhiyan transfers to the supernatural crime unit to stay by her side. A photo tucked inside a pocket watch reveals their childhood connection, and the mysterious System’s “Matchmaking Module” leaves a romantic question mark over this love story woven from revenge and redemption.
Sci-fi imagination, good novel!
