The Record of Hellfire

Chen Hui seems like an ordinary young man, perhaps living in a corner of a modern city. He has a Yin-Leak Body, which attracts unclean things with ease, but he knows nothing about it and simply thinks he has terrible luck. He may possess an unremarkable old heirloom.

Chen Hui gets caught up in a bizarre death, and strange traces are left at the scene. He becomes a suspect, or perhaps a genuine evil spirit has set its sights on him.

Meeting a mentor: With nowhere left to turn, he encounters a peculiar old man, Ninth Uncle, possibly a marginal figure in the Southern Mao tradition or a lone practitioner. In an extremely cruel way that makes Chen Hui gag, Ninth Uncle temporarily drives off the evil spirit, perhaps by drawing talismans with corpse oil or using his own pain as a lure. He saves Chen Hui, but also lets him glimpse the dark truth behind exorcism.
