Wang Shifu (1260-1336), whose name was Dexin, was from Dadu (now Beijing) and his ancestral home was Dingxing (now Dingxing County), Baoding City, Hebei Province. He was a famous opera writer in the Yuan Dynasty and the author of the drama "The Romance of the West Chamber". His life story is unknown. Wang Shifu is as famous as Guan Hanqing. His works comprehensively inherited the exquisite language art of Tang poetry and Song lyrics, and absorbed the lively oral language of the Yuan Dynasty folk. He created a splendid Yuan opera vocabulary and became an outstanding representative of the "Wencai school" in the history of Chinese opera. He is the author of fourteen kinds of dramas, three of which are "The Romance of the West Chamber", "The Story of Lichun Hall" and "The Story of the Broken Kiln". "The Broken Kiln" tells the story of the joys and sorrows of Liu Yue'e and Lu Mengzheng. Some people suspect that it was not written by Wang Shifu. There are also two types, "Tea Boat" and "Furong Pavilion", each with a piece of music and prose.
