Synopsis

"Er Food Record" is a collection of short stories in classical Chinese written by Yue Jun, a writer of the Qing Dynasty. It was published in the 57th year of Qianlong's reign (1792). It is divided into twelve volumes in the first volume and eight volumes in the second volume, and contains nearly 200 legends of strange things. The title of the book is taken from "Historical Records: Chronology of the Six Kingdoms" "Scholars are attracted by what they hear and see that Qin's power as emperor is gradually declining, and they do not observe its end and end. They laugh at it and dare not talk about it. This is no different from eating with their ears." It means "hearing what is said". The book records foxes, ghosts, strange people and strange things, market rumors and other subjects in the form of notebooks. It not only inherits the tradition of strange novels of the Six Dynasties, but also incorporates the narrative techniques of Tang legends. It combines the beautiful imagination of "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" and the textual research spirit of "Notes of Yuewei Thatched Cottage".
