After Earth went through several extreme climate changes, life on the planet neared extinction. To survive, humanity ventured deep into the vast universe in search of habitable worlds. During their wanderings through space, radiation from cosmic rays triggered mutations in the second sex characteristics of Homo sapiens, giving rise to three types: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Over the long migration, humanity split into two star systems: the X System and the Milky Way System. The X System focused on technology and civilization, while the Milky Way System focused on the military. But thirty years ago, the X System was also a formidable military power. When space pirates attacked, Ji Li led troops to drive them off, but pursued them too far and lost contact. Ji Li’s lover, Nan Chen, had given birth to their son, Ji Xie, just three months earlier when she contracted an epidemic and died. Lu Feng, president of the X System, ordered Nan Chen’s body burned. Ji Li returned victorious to find that only a handful of ashes remained of his lover, and that he had a five-month-old child, Ji Xie. After a series of political struggles, the X System scaled back its military and focused on technological development.
Thirty years later, space pirates attacked again. The X System was completely unable to fight back, so it requested joint military action with the Milky Way System. The Milky Way System demanded technology in exchange for its military support, and also required the children of the X System’s leadership to marry generals from the allied system.
The X System’s leaders looked down on the Milky Way Alliance’s barbaric militarism, so they put Ji Li’s son, Ji Xie, forward. To get the current president to legalize surgery to remove marks, Ji Xie proposed a deal.
And so, Ji Xie married Qi Ziyu, commander of the Milky Way System’s Ninth Legion.
