The mottled wall seemed to awaken like a jigsaw puzzle mechanism. The bricks that had been touched began to rotate, shift, and retreat gently, as if they were alive! Their scraping, clattering movements sounded like ancient gears starting up again. In an instant, a wide archway appeared before them!

Beyond the doorway, a winding cobblestone street came into view, its sunlight seeming enchanted.

The bustle, the colors, the unparalleled vitality, mingled with the strangest scents, formed a dazzling, madcap kaleidoscope!

In the Magical Menagerie window, a flock of brilliantly colored magical birds sang at the top of their voices, their calls clear and sweet. A huge white owl lazily preened its feathers, gazing down on all creation. In a corner, tiny, fluffy creatures no bigger than a palm scampered about, chirping and puffing.

Behind the enormous window of Flourish and Blotts, books as thick as castle walls were piled high. Some covers opened and shut by themselves, revealing moving illustrations inside: a pot in a cookbook automatically stirred a rich soup, while tiny figures in a History of Magic book waved at them through the window. More amusing still, several heavy magic textbooks atop the piles were like angry bulls, trying to butt open the metal clamp holding them shut...
