Yang Ying, daughter of the Yang family of generals, lost her father and brothers in battle. To put her mother’s mind at ease, she married Song Jiangnan and used her dowry to support the general’s household. Soon after the wedding, Song Jiangnan left for war. When he returned, he wanted to marry the female general Liu Dan as well, betraying Yang Ying. She divorced him.
Only after the divorce did she learn that Liu Dan had been involved in her father and brothers’ deaths. When her request to join the campaign was refused, she went to the battlefield on her own. There, she was fortunate to meet Song Jiangnan and Song Jianghe, who had once received her help. Fighting side by side, they turned the tide of the war. Yang Ying went from discarded wife to female general and ultimately found true love. Song Jiangnan established the Great Song dynasty, Song Jianghe became its founding chancellor, and Yang Ying became the founding empress of the Song dynasty.
