You’re Lin Xiaoman, a food blogger who transmigrates into the body of a farm girl in the ancient Great Wilderness Village after an unexpected downpour. Before you can even get your bearings, your engagement is broken off. Fortunately, just when all hope seems lost, you bind to the “Taste Bud System” and begin your journey to turn things around.
Using her modern culinary knowledge, Lin Xiaoman starts by improving the stove, then wins over the entire village with a pot of red-braised pork. The beginner recipe she unlocks, “Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Cakes,” earns rave reviews as well. She starts out with a stall at the night market, where her secret chili sauce sparks a buying frenzy. Later, she discovers wild mushrooms in the hills and creates mushroom soup dumplings, which prove just as popular.
Her younger brother apprentices to learn the craft and builds a new kind of steamer. Her cousin Qiao Niang joins her to establish the “Xiaoman Eatery,” and the Lin family’s food business flourishes. They partner with an embroidery shop to create custom packaging, and orders surge after an incognito prince takes a liking to their food.
But beneath the booming business, danger is brewing. A competitor poisons someone and frames her, but she manages to clear her name with a silver poison-testing needle. Facing one challenge after another, Lin Xiaoman keeps creating new dishes and seizing every business opportunity. In the end, she is summoned to the palace, where she develops military rations during a border war and opens a chain of restaurants. Then the System’s ultimate mission, to create “The Greatest Feast Under Heaven,” propels her fate toward a new climax.
