By day, she is Shen Zhiyi, the most overlooked concubine-born daughter of the Minister of Works’ household, suffering under her stepmother’s cruelty and her legitimate elder sister’s bullying. Even the lowest-ranking maid can take a shot at her.
By night, she is “Night Owl,” the leader of an assassins’ organization so feared that the capital’s powerful tremble at her name. She controls an underground intelligence network and runs the capital’s largest medicinal herb business and chain of brothels.
During an assassination on a rainy night, she is forced to take hostage Prince Xiao Jingheng, the notorious playboy known for his profligacy. The instant her veil slips, he memorizes her star-cold eyes, while the white jade earring she leaves behind reveals her connection to the Minister of Works’ household.
“Why does Your Highness keep watching Zhiyi?”
“I’m curious, Second Miss Shen. Are the silver needles in your sleeve for embroidery, or for killing?”
“Zhiyi is more curious about the map behind the hidden door in Your Highness’s study. Does it mark brothels, or... my hideouts?”
Later...
Her elder sister poisons her? She switches the wine cups, making the culprit go mad in front of everyone!
Her stepmother frames her? The Ninth Prince personally leads troops to raid her family home!
When her assassin secret identity is exposed, he grips her chin and chuckles.
“Shen Zhiyi, do you want this life of mine?”
