[Angst, physical and emotional torment, a groveling chase to win her back, obsession]
(As a teenager) -------
"Mom! I really didn't take it!" she cried, clutching her head as she cowered in misery.
The cane chased her like a venomous snake, striking her back, shoulders, and legs, leaving raised, burning red welts!
"Do you need help?"
That voice... Her whole body stiffened, and her blood seemed to freeze in an instant! She looked up sharply. There he was, with that face, far too handsome and far too cold. It was him!
(Years later) -------
"Enough."
He cut her off coldly. His voice was quiet, but carried an unquestionable finality and utter rejection.
"You're noisy."
One word. Cold and clear, like a final verdict.
"Clean this up, then get back to where you belong." After saying that, he didn't even look at her again, as if another glance would sully his eyes. He turned away abruptly!
"And one more thing."
"That... sticky fingers and a crooked heart. Piano lessons are suspended."
"Sticky fingers... a crooked heart..."
Those eight words, like the cruelest curse, pinned her to the spot!
The last of her strength seemed to drain away completely. Her vision suddenly went black, and her heart felt as if a giant hand had crushed it to pieces!
