The Herbal Queen’s Comeback

Abandoned in a mountain village in Northeast China by parents who favored sons over daughters, Guoran was fortunate to be adopted by Liu, an old herb gatherer. Under her grandfather’s medicine basket and the shade of an old locust tree, she revealed a gift for medicinal herbs, learning to identify the patterns on leaves and poring over herbal texts. She stayed true to herself through school bullying and her parents’ self-serving attempts to reconcile. With the help of a benefactor, Guoran fought her way to success with sheer perseverance, bringing the wisdom of mountain herbs to the world and writing a legendary tale of a discarded daughter who became the Queen of Medicinal Herbs.
