May You Be Safe Year After Year, Though We Never Meet Again

On our wedding night, my wife went to the Buddhist shrine without even drinking the wedding wine.

It was because this aloof, proud woman had loved my younger brother from the very beginning.

Over three years of marriage, I poured my heart and soul into trying to warm a block of ice. All I got in return was even more piercing indifference:

"Xu Mu, I'd rather take refuge in Buddhism than love you."

But the moment a truck came roaring toward me,

the woman who had hated me all her life risked her own life to save me.

Before I passed out, I saw her grab the doctor, blood pouring from her mouth.

"Don't tell that mad dog who saved him..."

"And don't let my family... make things difficult for him."

With tears in my eyes, I finally understood:

I wasn't the only one at fault in this marriage.

Reborn, I chose to join the international peacekeeping force and head to the front lines.

If we can't grow old together in this life, then I wish her

peace in every passing year, and that we never meet again.
