Farming Together in the Countryside

When Su Che collapsed in the torrential rain, dragging his broken leg behind him, he never imagined that a wild-looking man would take him home.

"Mute?" The man pinched his chin with hands as rough as tree bark. "You look a bit like a snow ferret from the mountains."

Only later did Su Che learn that this notorious hunter was called Lin Ye. He could beat a black bear until it yelped, yet he would awkwardly crouch by the stove to brew him brown sugar and ginger tea.

The night refugees surrounded the cabin with torches, Lin Ye slipped a necklace of beast fangs around his neck and turned to pick up his hunting knife.

"Stay hidden." A low, bloodied laugh came from beyond the crack in the door. "Anyone I bring home is under my protection."
