"Young man, the civil affairs office is closed. Has your fiancée still not arrived?" a staff member asked Song Yanze.
He gripped the marriage application in his hand and gave a bitter smile. Then, stiffly pushing himself to his feet, he left.
As he passed the trash can by the entrance, he tore up the application and threw away the wilted roses and the wedding sweets he had carefully prepared.
The staff whispered among themselves. "Poor guy. He got here first thing in the morning and waited all day! Looks like this wedding isn't happening."
"You don't know the half of it. His fiancée came this morning, but just as they were about to sign, she got a phone call and hurried off!"
He took out his phone and replied to the message that had been waiting for him.
"I'll take the position."
The other person replied almost immediately: "Weren't you getting married? You love your fiancée so much. Are you sure you want to leave?"
Song Yanze's expression was firm. "I'm sure. I'm calling off the wedding!"
