After suffering a crushing defeat in the family tournament, Zhang Yi is humiliated when his engagement is called off. By chance, he activates the Red Jade Ring, an heirloom left by his mother, and gains the legacy of an ancient artifact refiner.
After awakening this inheritance, he is repeatedly targeted by assassins in black and discovers that the hidden hand behind the Zhang family's decline twenty years ago is still watching from the shadows. By repairing an ancient sword in the family's secret vault, he restores the Zhang family's reputation for artifact refinement. When he causes a sensation at an auction, he learns that his mother's identity is far from ordinary. Later, while subduing the Purple Flame Spiritfire, he triggers deeper memories within the ring, and the truth behind the massacre that destroyed his family twenty years ago, along with his mother's origins, gradually comes to light.
